How do you know when a hotel is dirty? When you wake up and you see a giant roach crawling around. Nice. We couldn’t get out of there any quicker. Unfortunately for us, the tour didn’t get any better. It seems luck wasn’t on our side for this tour because the tour just got worse. And the tour lady wasn’t even around for the second day…

Why was it so bad? Well, let’s start with the weather. It was raining and we were on top of a mountain. This meant it was wet, cold, and foggy. We could barely see a few feet ahead of us. (Of course, this means I didn’t take a single picture.) We also had a really annoying tour guide. She happened to be my age (20) and she was really short. I think she was shorter than Fanny =O

Anyways, we were tired of the tour so we decided we only wanted to climb up half the mountain, but our tour guide misunderstood and bought us tickets to the top. After some frustration, we went up and it wasn’t that bad. We were still miserable from the rain and we couldn’t even see the giant gold Buddha at the top of the mountain because of the fog. Luckily, we met some nice people who were part of our tour group and we stuck with them the for the remainder of the tour.

After lunch, our guide arranged for us to leave earlier on another tour bus. In a stroke of luck, there were JUST enough seats to seat us and the people actually part of that tour. That meant we could finally go back to Chengdu and forget about this tour. It also meant we went the entire second day without seeing our annoying tour guide!

When we finally got back to Chengdu, I took a much needed shower and then headed to dinner. Tired of all the Sichuan food we ate (they basically served us the same food for three meals), we decided to go for some western food. We ended up at Pizza Hut, where I had pasta bolognese and baked beans. It wasn’t great, but passable.

And with that meal, our nightmare trip to Chengdu came to a close!
