10/19/2009 – Day 58 – Cooking!

My Chinese midterm went pretty well. Knowing exactly what needs to be said sure beats the heck out of the usual written tests. Even better, since everyone breezed through their presentations, we got out of class half-an-hour early! Makes up for that time when we stayed over 45 minutes!

At work, I continued learning Ruby on Rails (RoR) since my bosses still weren’t in. I still had trouble grasping the concepts behind RoR and Ruby. After work, I stopped by Fresh Mart and bought some groceries. For dinner, I attempted to make fried noodles with Chinese sausage, eggs, and peas, but it didn’t go that well. They tasted kind of bland, but at least I didn’t burn the place down. And I did manage to crack an egg without getting egg shells into the egg! Exciting!

09/07/2009 – Day 16 – Chinese test

After my terrible night, I was confronted with something straight out of a nightmare: a Chinese test. I’m bad enough at foreign languages as it is and Chinese characters don’t help. Listening for the different initials and tones was hard, really hard. I’m pretty sure I bombed that part. I also lost three points on the oral part and swapped the characters for six and seven on the written part. Oops.

Luckily, my headache mostly disappeared. Ironically, when I got home, I read an article about how eating certain food can cause terrible headaches. Great. Let’s see what I ate right before I got my headache: rice, Chinese sausages, and orange juice. Oranges were part of that list of foods, so maybe it was the orange juice?

09/06/2009 – Day 15 – Has it been two weeks already?

Two weeks? Wow, it really has been two weeks. Unfortunately, I still can’t order food on my own most of the time. Picture menus!

Another lazy day. Woke up at noon, made some instant noodles for lunch, and furiously updated this blog. Have you noticed? =P

Of course, no week can be complete without multiple visits to Carrefour, and once again, I went grocery shopping there. Finally got a wok! After Carrefour, I decided to cook some rice and some of the Chinese sausage that my cousin brought me from Guangzhou. I underestimated how much rice I made, but I ate it all anyways. Hopefully, I didn’t undercook the Chinese sausage, because I had a massive headache right after I ate. It was so bad that I couldn’t concentrate on studying for my Chinese test. I took a nap to see if it would go away, and when at woke up at 2:00 AM, it did mostly subside. I studied for a couple of hours and then went back to sleep.
